ARE YOU READY TO INSTALL ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING?

Are You Ready to Install Electric Vehicle Charging?

You can see hybrid and fully electric vehicles on every road in Britain these days and this is only likely to accelerate following the UK government’s recent confirmation that it will be banning the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2035 as a part of a commitment to a Road to Zero Strategy.

You can currently apply for a grant through the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), which offers up to £350 for electrical car charger installations for your home. As an Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) approved installer, Kingson Electrical have been approved to carry out these works for you, allowing you to participate in the scheme.

When working with Kingson Electrical to install your EV charger, our engineers will complete a free survey of your property to establish the best option for you. From here, the team will arrange a time and day to install your EV charger, minimising disturbance and maximising efficiency.

Why have Your EV Charger Installed by a Professional?

By enlisting the help of Kingson Electrical to complete your EV charger installation, you are choosing OLEV approved, experienced and highly qualified electricians. Our electricians will always ensure that the services delivered are tailored to your requirements while offering you professional advice.

Types of Electrical Vehicle Charging Points:

When installing your EV charger, it is first important to familiarise yourself with the types of charging points, as this can help to determine which charger to install based on how often you use your car.

For example, a rapid or SuperCharger is ideal for those who travel to and from home throughout the day as they can charge a vehicle up to 80% in just 20 minutes. However, the two most popular charging points for homeowners are fast and slow chargers, as these are the best solutions to conserve energy. In contrast to a rapid charger, a slow charger can take anywhere between 6 and 12 hours to charge, making it more suited for overnight charging. If you are unsure which charger is best for your home and use, our team can help during your home survey.

Electrical vehicle car charging points for business

Supplying your employees with electric vehicles is a cost-effective way of offering company cars as charging units are inexpensive to run and require minimal servicing. Providing electric company cars is a great way of demonstrating your environmental credentials to clients. It is also a move worth considering as you plan for the future as the government continues to place pressure on businesses to become more environmentally friendly.

For a business offering its employees electric company cars, the installation of charging points is essential. Our accredited and approved engineers can help you to fit your new charging points and can install multiple EV chargers in one visit to minimise downtime for your business.

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a government-funded initiative available for eligible businesses to partially cover the upfront costs of purchasing and installing EV chargers. The scheme is voucher-based, and you can apply using the application form that is provided on the government website.

However, it must be noted that if you choose to take part in this scheme, you are expected to use approved charging points, the full list of which is available on the government website. We are able to install many of the charging points on the approved list.

Who can install commercial EV chargers?

Only Office for Low Emission (OLEV) recognised installers can fit EV chargers for government grants. Many manufacturers of EV chargers will only recognise trained, registered engineers to install and maintain their products. Kingson Electrical Services work in partnership with major manufacturers and undergo regular training to advise on and supply a wide range of products, including the most efficient and popular EV chargers.

It is important to make sure that you enlist the help of trained and professional installers, as this ensures that chargers are safe and installed correctly for long-lasting results.

Types of EV chargers

When installing your electrical charging point, you will be able to choose between three main types; these are rapid, fast and slow.

Rapid

Rapid chargers can be found at motorway service stations and other public locations due to their fast-charging capabilities. The best example of a rapid charging unit is the Tesla Super Charger, which is designed to completely charge your vehicle in as little as 20 minutes.

Fast

It is possible for fast chargers to be installed on your commercial premises, which will allow your staff to charge their vehicle in a few hours while they are at work. The time it will take for a full charge will depend on the vehicle and the rating of the charging point.

Slow

Slow chargers take anywhere between 6 and 12 hours to charge an EV, making them most popular amongst those who prefer to charge their vehicle overnight. For this reason, slow chargers are less likely to be used for commercial properties.

From the entry-level, low-cost units through to the more specialised commercial systems Kingson Electrical can help you design and then install a full range of EV charge points to suit every location and budget.
